McNab (co-authoring with Peter Grimsdale) will be writing a novel that will be taking place post-ending of Battlefield 3 to compliment the game’s story, expanding on one particular character named Dmitri “Dima” Mayakovsky, a GRU (Russia’s Main Intelligence Directorate) operator. Players will be playing a portion of the game using Dima, as well as several other characters, including Henry “Black” Blackburn, who was the protagonist of the “Fault Line” series of videos.

The novel, titled “Battlefield 3: The Russian,” has no release date yet, but seeing as it takes place post-game, readers can expect to get their hands on it around the time Battlefield 3. On the official Battlefield blog, McNab shares his thoughts on being involved with the game and writing its complimentary novel:

In addition to serving as the author for game’s novel, McNab has also been using his 22 years of military experience to help advise DICE to ensure the authenticity and realism of soldier movements. Those aspects would be separate from the potential controversy that could be had by having a more realistic story.

Battlefield 3 is going to surprise people this autumn. The story, the characters, the world and the intense action come together to create a resonant, memorable experience.”

Andy McNab also has several novels and non-fiction books under his belt, including his best selling “Nick Stone” series, which is definitely worth checking out.

Battlefield 3 will be releasing October 25, 2011 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
